Children Service
The Children Service is for children aged from 5 to 11. It is held every Shabbat and Yom Tov morning from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (Times of Services
may vary – refer to local Press or the office).
It is led by Lisa Baker with some lively davening tunes, sedra discussion, games and food. Trips into the main shul for special occasions, i.e Rosh
Chodesh Bentching.
The service follows an abridged version of the adult service and encourages participation and involvement of the children as much as possible.
All the festivals are celebrated in the traditional way.On Rosh Hashanah the children are given apple and honey at Kiddush. On Sukkot they go to the
synagogue’s Succah for their Kiddush. On Simchat Torah the children participate in dancing in the main service, with their flags and they receive
lucky bags.
One of the features of the Junior’s Service is an annual visit to Donisthorpe Hall to entertain the residents. This gives great pleasure to young and old
alike. On Purim the children are encouraged to come to the synagogue in fancy dress to hear the Megilla (Book of Esther) and this is then followed by a
party with prizes and treats.
At Chanukah, normally all children from both the Junior Service and the Torah Tots participate in the Synagogue’s stage show or other suitable
entertainment, which is produced to the delight of the adults, and thoroughly enjoyed by proud parents and grandparents.
